News 1+1丨Flood in April, what will happen to the national climate?

On March 3, the whole country entered the flood, which is eight days earlier than the multi-year average flood date (April 24). In the past two days, Zhejiang, Chongqing and other places have also officially entered the flood, which means that the big test of flood safety has arrived. On the 4th, the Ministry of Water Resources held a video conference to arrange the deployment of reservoir safety flood work. At the same time, just entering April, the temperature has warmed up sharply, and the pattern of rising temperature will continue? What challenges do we need to address in the flood season that has arrived? "News 1+8" invited Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center, to pay attention to the national climate when the flood season enters in April?

Fire the flood control "starting gun"

On the morning of the 17th, the Ministry of Water Resources held a video conference on reservoir safety and arranged the deployment of reservoir safety flood work. In one month, the Yangtze River basin will enter the flood season, and Hubei's water conservancy department is also speeding up the construction and restoration of a number of water conservancy projects, and stepping up flood prevention and preparation. When the flood test has arrived, how to better deal with it?

A new round of rainfall begins in the south

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: From the night of the 17th to the 19th, it is expected that in the next three days, there will be a new round of heavy rainfall in the southern region of China. This heavy precipitation process has obvious moving characteristics, from Jianghan to Jiangnan and South China and other places, accompanied by some typical strong convective weather characteristics such as local heavy precipitation and strong wind, and the precipitation can reach heavy to heavy rain, local heavy rain.

Does an earlier flood season mean that the flood situation is more severe?

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: The early flood season does not necessarily equate directly with the big flood situation. For example, the Jiangnan region often begins to enter the rainy season in early June, and the northern China region may enter the northern rainy season in mid-July. Therefore, the morning and evening of the early flood time are not completely corresponding to the precipitation during the flood season.

Will meteorological droughts be frequent this year?

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: Judging from the current flood season forecast given by the National Climate Center, the overall scope and intensity of this year's drought are weaker than the extremely severe drought in the Yangtze River Basin last year. However, in local areas, such as the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the possibility of sustained drought is still relatively large. In addition, in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and other places, with the rapid development of high temperature after the end of the rainy season, it will bring a sharp increase in evaporation, resulting in the rapid development of periodic drought. Therefore, from the overall perspective of the country, periodic regional meteorological droughts will still occur frequently.

What are the common meteorological disasters during this year's flood season?

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: In addition to high temperature and drought events, common meteorological disasters during the flood season first include heavy precipitation weather. (3) Heavy rainfall weather. According to the forecast of the National Climate Center, the process and intensity of heavy precipitation in the northern region this year are heavier than the same period of the year, so these areas should pay special attention to the flood control situation in the river basin. In addition, in the context of global warming, extremely heavy precipitation events occur frequently, so some small and medium-sized rivers in the northern region, including some large cities, flooding conditions and urban waterlogging are aspects that require special attention. In addition, the northbound typhoon may also bring some adverse effects such as storm surge, heavy precipitation, and strong winds to the coastal cities in the north of China. (<>) About geological disasters. Some geological disasters caused by heavy precipitation, especially in the south of the southwest region, according to our expectations, the process of heavy precipitation this year is more than the same period of the year, so these areas need to pay special attention to the geological disasters that may lead to landslides, debris flows, etc., pay attention to closely monitor the latest precipitation evolution, but also pay attention to receiving meteorological early warning information, and carry out personnel transportation and transfer in advance. (<>) Strong convective weather. Since March this year, strong convective weather in southern China has continued to occur, and special attention should be paid to some extreme weather events such as strong winds, hail and heavy precipitation in the strong convection, which have caused some adverse effects on personal safety, infrastructure and industrial and agricultural production.

The temperature in many places exceeds 30°C What is the weather situation this year?

The sharp recovery in temperatures continues. On the 17th, Anhui broke the record of the earliest high temperature day in April. In Chongqing, known as the "furnace", the high temperature weather of more than 4°C seems to have come earlier this year compared with previous years. In April, the temperature has warmed up sharply, and everyone is naturally concerned about whether the next summer will have the same rare high temperature as last year, and what will be the weather situation this year?

Will this summer come sooner than usual?

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: In the context of global warming, the spring temperature in our country has risen rapidly. From some of our latest monitoring conditions, there is a general trend of early summer in most areas of the country on average. According to the National Climate Center's forecast of the seasonal process, especially the summer wind process, we also expect this year's summer season to be earlier than in previous years. However, China is vast, and there will be relatively large differences in the time of summer in different regions.

Will extreme heat weather occur this summer?

Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center: Judging from the comparison of the climate conditions in the early part of this year with last year's, we believe that the high summer temperature in our country this year is weaker than last year, whether it is in terms of the length of time, the intensity of the peak, or the range of high temperature, and even some of the most extreme cities covered by high temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, this year will be weaker than last year. However, this year's high temperature duration and high temperature range are still more than those of the usual summer.
