• Artificial Intelligence and Literature The robot as a writer's friend

"Fascinating and scary at the same time." The Internet user Nexus Achiles summarizes in the short message that he uploaded this Tuesday to YouTube the reaction of many to the latest musical creation with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Heart on my sleeve, title of the song, replicates the voices of Drake and The Weeknd in a rap with personal lyrics about the relationship of both performers with Selena Gomez. A phone call to producer Metro Boomin is interspersed in the recording between the piano touches and the sound of the drum machine that envelops the composition.

The author of the duo hides his identity under the pseudonym Ghoswriter977. Its name is a reference to the usual formula used in star and celebrity autobiographies that are actually written by "ghostwriters." "This is just the beginning," Ghoswriter977 said in releasing the rap, which he says was generated by AI software without the involvement of Canadian musicians.

Drake and Weeknd did not consent to this anonymous song that clones their voices with perfect verisimilitude. The rap was played more than 8.5 million times on Tik Tok and played on Spotify some 250,000 times until it was removed from social media. But the echo of the song still resonates on different platforms. On YouTube you can listen to possible versions and remixes of the original duet in AI. "I've done what I thought sounded good, the original Ghostwriter977 is a firecracker, I just wanted to clean it up a bit. All rights are yours," writes user @imghostwriter.

It is not the first time that songs in AI of fashionable performers have been produced. What has changed is the quality of artificial voices that copy today's most popular Canadian artists. "This is the first example of AI-generated music that has really surprised me... Soon you will be able to produce, on demand with AI, unlimited music from your favorite artists," tweeted McKay Wrigley, program developer and promoter of open source.

In the Ghostwriter977 theme, Drake's voice raps about Selena Gomez and mentions Justin Bieber before the fake Weeknd protests that the actress and singer allegedly cheated on him before the relationship broke up. The lyrics seem to be neatly studied to avoid a lawsuit for defamation of the people mentioned. At the same time, the song itself does not infringe on the property rights of Canadians as it is, supposedly, a completely original composition.

Drake's record label, Universal Music, immediately activated its resources for streaming services, from Spotify to Apple Music, to remove rap from their platforms. On the other hand, the industryhas launched a campaign in defense and support of human creativity. The Human Artistry Campaign is supported by leading industry associations.
