The CANNESERIES festival ends on Wednesday and on this occasion, Europe 1 makes you discover one of the nuggets that were presented this week. It is none other than our Quebec cousins who are at the origin, "Bon matin Chuck", a funny and sad series at the same time, a bet won while its subject is drug addiction.

Our Quebec cousins have humor, and they demonstrated it once again this week at the CANNESERIES festival, where "Bon matin Chuck" was presented. And it is a successful bet for the directors of the offbeat series, because the jury is conquered. Being able to make people laugh about a serious subject is not an easy task, but it is nevertheless that of the Canadian work that examines the problems of drug addiction of Chuck Bélanger.

For the hero or rather anti-hero of the series and star TV host of Quebec, it is the coke rail too many. The viewer discovers the latter while he finds himself in the middle of a drug trafficking case, which will earn him his show and his couple. As Quebecers say, "he has a hard time" to stop drugs and thus begins a detox.

Humor and addiction

"I'm a drug addict! Alright!", can we hear the shouting of the main character completely crazy, enough to announce the color of the "TV show". In it are addressed directly the difficulties related to addiction, with a lot of humor. Co-director Jean-François Rivard tells us where this ironic title comes from. "'Good morning Chuck' for me, it has a side that evokes the difficult mornings. So it's a bit of an irony to say good morning," he laughs.

"It's when you meet someone, and then you see they had a tough night, you tap on the shoulder and say, 'Good morning, friend!'" Chuck assembles an endearing cast and relies on a highly naturalistic writing. We click without hesitation on the next episode, but beware of addiction.
