In anticipation of astronauts staying on Mars in the future to conduct manned exploration, NASA = National Aeronautics and Space Administration has opened a facility for conducting experiments in which humans live for one year in an environment similar to Mars.

The experimental facility opened to the public at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Texas on the 11th has a building made with a 3D printer for architecture and is about 160 square meters in size.

There are four private bedrooms, a communal shower, a living room, and even a laboratory, as well as equipment for growing vegetables.

Outside the building, there is a space of about 4 square meters with red sand to resemble the Martian environment, and various experiments such as simulating walking a long distance on Mars can be conducted.

From June, NASA plans to conduct an experiment in which four volunteer participants will live in this facility for about one year, and will check their health and other factors, which will be used for future manned missions on Mars.

A NASA official said, "We need to understand how missions conducted away from Earth and with limited supplies will affect health and activities."

NASA is planning to send humans back to the moon by 110 in the international project "Artemis Program", in which Japan participate, and beyond that, it is also looking ahead to the first manned landing on Mars.
