Draping linen, cloth, scraping, sanding, then lacquering and polishing, this time it takes dozens of processes to go down over and over again.

【Commentary】Recently, in the Shijie Golden Lacquer Painting Research Institute located in Xinjian County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, the inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage project of Shanxi Province, Gou Keqin and Gou Suqin, are rushing to produce gold lacquer painting crafts. Meilanzhuju, flowers, birds, fish and insects, mountains and rivers in the surface... The works come to life, gorgeous and rich, and these crafts will be exported to Southeast Asia.

According to historical records, the art of allocating gold has a history of more than 1000,<> years in China, and was first found in a cultural relic unearthed in the Song Dynasty. In fact, as early as the Han Dynasty, there were gold and gold lacquer products; During the Tang and Song dynasties, the techniques of gold sticking and gold dialing were widely used in lacquer painting; The Ming and Qing dynasties entered their heyday; In the late Qing Dynasty, the skill was gradually lost due to its time-consuming, labor-intensive and high price.

【Commentary】Gou Keqin's father Gou Shiji was born in a family of medicine, he liked to paint since he was a child, and studied under the famous lacquer master Xue Xianji in the late Qing Dynasty and early Min, specializing in painting. It was then that Gou Shijie learned that the gold-digging technique had long been lost, and he decided to find clues to excavate and restore the skill.

My father's master Xue Xianji found the gold lacquer painting when he was in Beijing for a meeting, and after he came back, he studied the gold allocation with my father, and the two generations of them, after 10 years of studying the gold lacquer painting, there was a preliminary outline, through the 60s and 70s, my father studied this thing alone, and after more than 20 years of research, it basically took shape.

【Commentary】Born in 1969, Gou Keqin studied painting and calligraphy from an early age, and after graduating from high school, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, and then devoted himself to the research and creation of gold lacquer painting with his father. Because gold leaf is more expensive and has a relatively high gold content, you must have confidence in the production process and have a picture in your heart. When you draw directly on it, it's the kind that is made in one stroke. So generally when we draw on it, we have to practice dozens or even hundreds of times at the bottom. Otherwise, the gold leaf is particularly thin, the strength is not well mastered, and the gold leaf is pulled away at once, and the painting will be wasted.

【Commentary】The art of gold lacquer painting was first used in court products, and in order to inherit this skill, it is necessary to let it go down the high pavilion and into ordinary people's homes, and enhance its practicality on the basis of maintaining artistry. In recent years, the Institute of Gold Paint Painting has continued to innovate and integrate gold paint painting into home decorations such as screens and flat cabinets to better inherit the skills.

【Commentary】Today, Gou Keqin's son Gou Yikai has also taken over the "baton" of inheritance. His addition has injected new ideas into the inheritance and innovation of ancient skills, diversified the product range, and made the art of gold lacquer painting rejuvenated on more carriers, favored by the younger generation.
