According to previous reports, at about 2021:5 on May 22, 11, when the defendant Liu Dong was driving his BMW sedan along Wuhui Road in Zhongshan District from west to east, he suddenly accelerated the vehicle because he could not accept the reality of investment failure, deliberately ran a red light, and collided with a number of pedestrians who were crossing the zebra crossing on the sidewalk of the north gate of Wuhui Road Labor Park, resulting in the death of four victims on the spot, one victim died of ineffective rescue on the same day, and eight victims were injured to varying degrees. After that, Liu Dong drove to the intersection of Wuhui Road and Jiefang Road, rear-ended a van, causing damage to the truck. Liu Dong then abandoned the car and fled the crime scene. At about 40 o'clock on the same day, Liu Dong went to the Kunming Street Police Station, saying that his car had rear-ended with another person's vehicle, but he did not admit the fact that he had hit someone with his car, and after the public security organ determined that he was a criminal suspect in this case, after interrogation, he confessed his criminal facts.
The Dalian Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Liu Dong ignored the law and deliberately endangered public safety by dangerous methods, causing five deaths, many injuries, and losses to other people's property, and his acts violated the life, health and property safety of an unspecified majority, constituting the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous methods.
