Defendant Dong Zhimin brought Xiaohuamei to live together at home in Dongji Village. When she first arrived at the Dong family, Xiaohuamei was basically able to take care of herself and communicate with people, but sometimes there were foolish smiles, dull eyes and other manifestations. In 1999, the two gave birth to their eldest son. From 2011 to 2020, the two had seven children. After Xiaohuamei gave birth to two and three sons in 2011 and 2012, the symptoms of mental disorders gradually worsened, and the symptoms became more obvious after giving birth to six children in 2017. During this period, Dong Zhimin only took Xiaohuamei to the outpatient clinic of a neighboring county township hospital in the first half of 2013, but was never sent to the hospital for treatment. From July 2017 to before the crime, Dong Zhimin also abused and detained Xiaohuamei with cloth ropes and chains. During this period, Xiaohuamei's diet and living were not guaranteed normally, she often suffered from hunger and cold, and there was no water, electricity and sunlight in her living place, and her living environment was harsh. Dong Zhimin's abuse caused Xiaohuamei's personal health to suffer serious harm. It was identified that Xiaohuamei had schizophrenia (recession period) and was rated as mentally disabled level 7.
The Xuzhou Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Dong Zhimin's abuse of family members was egregious, constituting the crime of abuse, and caused Xiaohuamei to suffer from schizophrenia irreversibly, with aggravating circumstances that caused serious injury to the victim; Dong Zhimin's illegal deprivation of Xiaohuamei's personal freedom constitutes the crime of illegal detention, and several crimes should be punished concurrently according to law. Defendants Shi Lizhong, Sang Heniu, Tan Aiqing, Huo Yongqu, and Huo Fude abducted and trafficked women, causing serious consequences and constituting the crime of abducting and trafficking women.
