It all started when two sources told Bloomberg that production company Warner Bros. wants to make Harry Potter in a new version, this time in the form of a streamed series that is supposed to be shown on HBO. Then the rumor took on a life of its own and spread quickly on social media.

Warner Bros. has not confirmed the information, but at a press conference on April 12, the production company is expected to share more details.

"The fans are very protective"

When cultural journalist Ayan Jamal read the information, her first reaction was a small scream that was quickly followed by watching the Harry Potter fans' mood.

"These are people who are very protective of the show and they have a lot of opinions about how to do it, if you should do something. There is a lot of unrest in the air," she says.

Judging by the information disseminated, the series will be structured so that the seven books will be divided into seven seasons.

– It gives room for it to be more nutritious, says Jamal and highlights that one of the complaints on the films has been that it is difficult to do the books justice.

Controversial author – "I think many will look beyond Rowling"

Nor has writer J.K Rowling confirmed that a series is in the works.

Rowling has repeatedly been under fire and has been criticised by Potter fans for, among other things, transphobia – prompting several to boycott products linked to her name. A recent example is the video game "Hogwarts legacy" that some players refrained from buying.

"In this case, I think a lot of people will look beyond Rowling as a person and focus on the series instead. If you will even check, because many on the internet also think "I do not want to destroy the films that already exist".

But who will we see in the roles of Headmaster Dumbledore, teacher Severus Snape and the main trio Harry, Ron and Hermione? In the clip, Ayan Jamal gives his guesses.
