Dr. Mahmoud Yazbek, a professor of Middle Eastern studies at the University of Haifa and an expert on Israeli affairs, said that the approval of the Israeli government and its president, Benjamin Netanyahu, to establish a new security apparatus reflects their weakness, and the latter's acquiescence to the requirements of extremist Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

Speaking to Beyond the News (2023/4/3), the guest of the program explained that Netanyahu, against the backdrop of his freeze on the legislative process against the Supreme Court, was forced to accept Ben Gvir's condition, which is the establishment of an extremist security militia for fear that his government will collapse, which clearly reflects this weakness.

This comes against the backdrop of the government's approval of the establishment of a new security apparatus under the name of the "National Guard" led by Minister of National Security "Ben Gvir" in light of positions rejecting this step, announced by the police chief, the attorney general and opposition leaders.

The expert on Israeli affairs stressed that Tel Aviv does not need any new security apparatus, as it has enough "not only for the State of Israel but for a group of countries," as he put it, but Netanyahu, who is going through his weakest period, submitted to Ben Gvir's conditions to gain his support and remain in the government.

He also said: Ben Gvir is a psychologically shaky political figure who is condemned by the Israeli courts, and his control over the government's choices is a great indication of the above, and the approval of the establishment of the security apparatus is nothing but "satisfying a sick psyche" for this minister.

The political expert stated that all security analysts in Israel say that what the effective security services of their state could not do in dealing with the Palestinians, a new apparatus will not be able to add anything new to it, and will have no role except to further aggravate the situation through what can be practiced by the elements of that apparatus, who are expected to be from far-right fascist forces.

Attorney General Gali Bharav Mayara has voiced opposition to the creation of the service, citing legal obstacles, and opposition leader Yair Lapid has criticized Netanyahu's government for "the creation of an army of thugs and a private militia" in Ben Gvir.

Extension of terrorist gangs

Maj. Gen. Wassef Erekat, a Palestinian military and strategic expert, said Ben Gvir's biography, ideological background and culture of hatred make him in the "Zionist entity" like a "teenage child with badges of shame", considering the security apparatus he seeks to form a repeat of the Haganah, Stern and Irgun terrorist gangs.

He explained that the central goal of this apparatus to be formed is to blow up the region and increase tension in it, by promoting a culture of hatred, raising the slogan of death to Arabs and expelling Palestinians, and insisting on it carries the message that 800,<> Israeli soldiers could not confront the Palestinians.

Therefore, the Palestinian military analyst believes that the region, under the formation of this apparatus, is heading towards more pain and blood, which will be in return for more sacrifices for the Palestinian people, as it will not accept Ben Gvir's gangs as he did not accept the previous gangs.

Erekat predicted a wave of escalation, in light of Ben Gvir's declared support for the choices of Israeli extremists, and his declared support for their desire to carry out incursions into Al-Aqsa during their upcoming celebrations, stressing the need for the Palestinians to adopt a new strategy for confrontation, as what Ben Gvir proposes is "dangerous" as it leads the region to ignite.
