The new Indiana Jones will have its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 18, festival organizers announced Monday. The final part of the adventures of the archaeologist, directed by James Mangold, will be screened and a tribute to his actor Harrison Ford is also planned.

The new Indiana Jones will have its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which will also pay an "exceptional tribute" to its actor, Harrison Ford, 80. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, directed by James Mangold, is scheduled to be screened on May 18 in Cannes, organizers said in a statement.

This fifth part of the adventures of the adventurous archaeologist imagined by Georges Lucas and brought to the screen by Steven Spielberg, is to be released on June 28 in France and June 30 in the United States.

Harrison Ford, Hollywood film figure

Like Tom Cruise for "Top Gun: Maverick", last year, climbing the steps promises to be one of the events of the festival. On the music of John Williams are expected, alongside Harrison Ford, the other actors of the film, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas and Mads Mikkelsen.

On this occasion, the festival will pay special tribute to Harrison Ford, a figure in Hollywood cinema, from the character of Han Solo in Star Wars to Blade Runner, including the adventurer with the hat and whip, which he has embodied since 1981 and the first episode, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, co-produced by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg for Disney and LucasFilms, is directed this time by James Mangold, author of the biopic on Johnny Cash Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix and Le Mans 66 (2019).

This is the second film whose selection has been officially confirmed by the Festival, after Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro.

The jury of the 76th Cannes Film Festival (16 to 27 May) will be chaired by Swedish director Ruben Östlund (The Square, Sans Filtre). The rest of the selection is expected to be announced in April.
