In Mamurokawa Town, Yamagata Prefecture, the buds of cod, a wild vegetable grown in greenhouses, are at their peak shipping season.

In Mamurokawa Town, Yamagata Prefecture, cod sprouts have been cultivated for more than 30 years.

Today, 17 farmers continue to produce and are at their peak shipping season.

Shigemi Ono's 200-square-meter agricultural house in the Osawa district of Mamurokawa Town is also busy shipping every day.

Mr. Ono and his wife go into the house and carefully harvest the cod buds that have grown to about 2 to 7 centimeters in length one by one with a small knife and sort them according to their size.

Mr. Ono said, "We have been blessed with very good weather since the end of last month, and so far they have been growing well and large sprouts are appearing, so I would like you to enjoy them in tempura and meat rolls."

According to the Mogami Central Agricultural Cooperative, the harvest work will continue until the end of March and will be shipped mainly to the fruit and vegetable market in Tokyo.
