Central Nippon Expressway decided to set up a new forum for dialogue with on-site employees, which was requested by the bereaved family, regarding the accident where the ceiling plate collapsed in the Sasago Tunnel on the Chuo Expressway and nine people died.

Central Nippon Expressway said, "We want to take the lessons of the accident and improve safety."

On December 2nd, 2012, the Sasago Tunnel in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, collapsed and three cars were crushed, killing nine people and injuring three others.

More than 10 years have passed since the accident, and Central Nippon Expressway has decided to create a new opportunity for direct dialogue between the bereaved families and on-site employees this spring.

Until now, company executives and people in charge have explained to the bereaved families, but for many years the bereaved families have requested that they want to hear from on-site employees about their thoughts on highway safety. After that, I continued to look into it.

A person in charge of Central Nippon Expressway said, ``With more than 30% of the employees who joined the company after the accident, we want to pass on the lessons learned from the accident to improve safety.'' about it.

Shinichi Ishikawa, the father of Yuri Ishikawa (28 years old at the time), who died in the accident and asked for an opportunity to have a dialogue with him, said, "I'm glad that what I've been complaining about so far was not in vain, but it took a long time to realize it. There is also regret that it has gone too far," he said.
