In the Hidaka region of Hokkaido, which is known as a breeding ground for racehorses, the racehorse birth season is approaching, and cute foals are being born one after another at the ranch.

At racehorse farms in the Hidaka region of Hokkaido, the calving season runs from February to May every year.

Of these, 9 have been born so far at Masaaki Tobino's ranch in Shinhidaka Town.

At the ranch, a newborn foal weighing about 50 kilograms was grazing, walking close to its mother and sucking its milk.

About six more horses are expected to be born at this ranch by the end of next month, and the foals will spend time with their mothers from July to September when they are weaned.

Mr. Tobino said, "It's easy to get sick soon after birth, so we need to be careful, but he's growing up in good health. I want him to grow up to be a horse that can perform well in big races."

According to a public interest incorporated foundation that manages information such as the pedigree of horse racing horses, the Hidaka region expects to have about 6,000 foals this year.
