The president's effort to distance himself from the

law and from the radical feminism that Podemos represents, in the middle of the 8-M week, was staged on Tuesday in Congress.

In an impossible balancing act

, Sánchez absented himself from the vote with which the processing of the reform of the most contested law of his mandate began thanks to the support that, given the intransigence of his partner, granted him the pp.

His decision not to vote reveals an irresponsibility that costs

seriously undermines his leadership.

Throughout the legislature, the Government has overcome critical moments -such as the pardons of 1-O or the elimination of sedition and the reduction of embezzlement-, but never had a decision of its own generated as much social rejection as the law of

Yes is yes

.

Despite this, the president has acted arrogantly.

Far from apologizing to the citizens, and far from thanking the PP for its help -a questionable support, since the processing of the reform by urgent means excludes the reports of the Council of State or the General Council of the Judiciary-, Sánchez sought situate itself in both positions at the same time: that of electoral centrality that the PSOE seems to pursue and that of radical dogmatism that Podemos embodies.

An alleged equidistance that stands out even more when even Yolanda Díaz was forced to add her vote to the purple ones.

The president's interest in separating himself from the cost of the

Yes is yes

It has also been verified with the isolation of Irene Montero, who yesterday presided over the usual act of the Ministry of Equality for the first time without Sánchez, and who on Tuesday did not appear with Nadia Calviño after the Council of Ministers to present the Parity Law.

Both partners used such a harsh tone in Congress that the PSOE leaders attended yesterday's marches with fear of being rebuked by protesters related to Podemos.

No neutral spectator understands that such a dialectical escalation corresponds to two partners in the same coalition.

Their estrangement, however, is unlikely to translate into a real break, for one reason:

mutual need

.

It is not the principles but the conservation of power that binds both parties in the present and in the future.

Although as the elections approach the two try to differentiate their profiles, the only project that can open the door to continuity in power is the alliance they have forged with each other and with the parties that represent the most solvent worldviews: Bildu and ERC.

As can be seen these days, extremism contaminates government action in areas as sensitive as the economy, with increasing demonization of business.

It is not a surprise coming from Podemos, which does not hide, but it is a responsibility for which the PSOE must answer at the polls.
