In three class action lawsuits that disputed whether or not the My Number system was unconstitutional, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional, saying, ``It is being used and provided within the scope of legitimate administrative purposes, and does not infringe on the right to privacy.'' For the first time, it has made a unified judgment that it is not, and has rejected an appeal to the government to stop using the My Number.

Regarding the My Number system, which began operation seven years ago, residents used the My Number system against the government, claiming that ``the risk of personal information being leaked is extremely high and violates the constitution that guarantees the right to privacy.'' Since 2015, class action lawsuits have been filed in eight locations across the country, asking for deletion without doing so.

Judgments in three lawsuits filed in Sendai, Fukuoka, and Nagoya were handed down on the 9th, and presiding judge Takuya Miyama of the First Petty Bench of the Supreme Court said, ``The My Number system will improve the efficiency of administrative management and the people's lives. In addition to improving convenience, the scope of use of personal information is limited to social security, tax, etc., and is used and provided within the scope of legitimate administrative purposes.Information leaks from information management systems The risk is extremely low," he said.

Based on this, a unified decision was made that the My Number system is not unconstitutional, stating that ``there is no specific risk that personal information will be disclosed to a third party beyond the scope of legitimate purposes, and the right to privacy will not be violated.'' , and the loss of the residents' side was confirmed.

This is the first time the Supreme Court has ruled on whether the My Number system is unconstitutional.
