The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has proposed a plan to create a model school that integrates the operation of special support schools and either elementary, junior high, or high schools in order to expand the environment for children to learn together regardless of whether they have disabilities or not. indicated by .

Regarding the Japanese education system for children with disabilities, the United Nations Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities pointed out in September last year that ``separated special education has persisted, making it difficult to access education in a normal environment.'' issued a recommendation calling for efforts to learn together with non-disabled children.

In response to this situation, a draft report was presented on the 9th at an expert meeting of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

In this document, it proposes that a model school should be established that integrates the operation of a special support school and either elementary, junior high, or high school, and that children should aim to learn together regardless of whether they have disabilities or not. .

Specifically, it is assumed that two or more schools, including special support schools, will work together to enhance educational outcomes through exchanges and joint learning.

The report is scheduled to be compiled by the end of this month, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology aims to implement the model school project as early as the year after next.
