Every winter, black storks come from the north to the south to overwinter, but they have quite high requirements for the living environment during reproduction, migration and overwintering.

  Yichang, located at the junction of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, has always been an important wintering habitat for black storks.

The Nanhe area of ​​Bailizhou in Zhijiang City has original natural ecology, a large area of ​​tidal flats and rich fish, and is less disturbed by humans.

In 2021, volunteers from the Yichang Bird Watching Lovers Service Center observed 15 black storks in this area, which is the largest number of black storks found in Yichang.

  In order to find out the population of black storks overwintering in Zhijiang, from December 2022, Zhijiang Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning will join hands with Yichang Municipal Bureau of Forestry and Gardens, Yichang Bird Watching Lovers Service Center, Zhijiang City Forest Plant Wildlife The protection station and other units conducted 3-month observations of black storks overwintering in the Nanhe area of ​​Bailizhou, Zhijiang, with a total of 60 observations.

  Yuan Tao, head of the Forest Plant and Wildlife Protection Station of Zhijiang City, said that rare birds are an important part of the ecosystem. Habitat, migration environment, efforts to create a watershed biodiversity protection and healthy development laid the foundation.
