After graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo, he worked at a major trading company before establishing Happy Science in 1986.

According to officials, Mr. Okawa was found collapsed at his home in Tokyo in the early hours of February 28, and was transported to a hospital, where he died on the 2nd.
