At Byodo-in Temple, a world heritage site in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, the annual memorial service "Kanpaku Memorial Service" was held to commemorate Fujiwara Yorimichi, who founded the temple in the Heian period.

The Kanpaku Memorial Service is held on March 2nd every year in memory of Fujiwara no Yorimichi, who was a powerful Kanpaku in the Heian period and founded Byodo-in Temple.

On the 2nd, about 20 people, including monks dressed in green and purple, gathered at the National Treasure Phoenix Hall.

Then, the sutra was read aloud in front of the seated statue of Amida Nyorai, the principal object of worship, and lotus petal-shaped paper called sange was sprinkled.

Since this year marks the 970th anniversary of the construction of the Phoenix Hall, this year's "Sanka" was specially cut out of the phoenix and the celestial figure.

At the same time, a "Sotoba" was set up in the Phoenix Hall to pray for the end of the new corona virus, the end of conflicts around the world, and the return of peace.

Fumiaki Kamui, the chief priest of Byodo-in Temple, said, "I hope that the world will be peaceful, epidemics will be eliminated, and people will be able to get close to each other."
