The government wants a parliamentary committee, with a member from each Riksdag party, to look extra into how the companies affect the business world and especially other media companies, something that the Moderates previously raised.

During the autumn, Tidningsutgivarna, TU, criticized that SVT has too much text in the articles on SVT.se, and thus competes with commercial media, especially outside the big cities.

More public education less competition

The committee is to produce a proposal for what public service missions should look like between 2026 and 2034. The government wants to see a special focus on public education and journalism there - a wording that was not included in the previous directive and can be seen as a push against several of the government parties the desire for a "narrower, sharper" public service.

The directives also state that "the focus of public service content is where there is a lack of commercial alternatives", which could mean a blow to SVT's reality offering with "Married at First Sight" and "Hotel romance".

At the same time, it is noted that public service companies are important as clients in the television market.

More collaboration

The government also wants the mirroring task to be reviewed in its entirety.

Since 2014, the task of reflecting the entire country means that SVT and SR must show the population's diversity, and are required to include an equality and diversity perspective in their programs.

Since the beginning of the year, the Inspectors can also review the companies' online publications and not just what has been broadcast.

Speaking of a more online-oriented world, the committee will also outline how to manage to maintain a reach of 99.8 percent of the population when more people - both audiences and other media companies - leave the terrestrial network.

The Ministry of Culture also wants to investigate whether the three companies can cooperate to a greater extent in order to use the money more effectively.

However, there is a risk that it would involve problems with the preparedness issues.
