Respiratory viruses are active in the winter, and the infection is known as seasonal influenza.

It spreads around the world, infecting even children, through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

And it was stated in the "Networks" program - today's Thursday episode - that the United States and Europe are witnessing a wave of simultaneous spread of 3 respiratory "viruses".

These are influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

As for the Arab world, some countries have warned of an increase in seasonal influenza cases, while the respiratory syncytial virus has spread among children in Egypt and Jordan.

Seasonal influenza is divided into three types;

Type A, B, and C. Types A and B cause epidemics. Type A is widespread in many countries of the world. Type C is rare and usually causes mild infections.

The symptoms of seasonal influenza are high fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, sore throat, and runny nose. Children and pregnant women are more vulnerable to complications.

As for the Covid-19 virus, its symptoms include: fever, dry cough, fatigue, loss of taste and smell, and nasal congestion;

there are severe symptoms;

These include: shortness of breath.

With regard to the respiratory syncytial virus, it attacks the respiratory tract, and can infect all ages, especially children, and is transmitted through droplets in the air.

And its symptoms: sneezing, coughing, runny nose, stuffy nose, fever, and bronchitis.

Prevention and vaccine

It is noteworthy that the annual influenza vaccine is the most effective way to protect against it, and then prevention through: washing hands regularly, avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth, as well as avoiding close proximity to patients with this infection, and staying at home if the person feels infected.

And while there are vaccines for influenza and Covid-19 to confront them, there is no vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus yet, but the American “Pfizer” group announced positive results for a clinical trial for developing a vaccine in the coming years.

How did the tweeters react?

Commenting on the spread of viruses this season, Muhammad Othman commented, "The seasonal flu strain this year is severe, especially for those with chronic diseases."

With a kind of warning and the need for prevention, activist Hamed Al-Wadaani said: "With cold, diseases increase, and the immune system is exposed to some weakness. Therefore, it is important to take precautions and preventive measures against these diseases. And take the initiative to take the seasonal influenza vaccine."

As for the account that calls itself Yaz, he wrote: “I don’t know why you watched it, seasonal influenza is present from Corona, heal you … you see normal, normal with the changes in the atmosphere, you are a human being, not a machine.”
