"In France, 200 farms disappear every week: that's why I'm here, in the Loiret, with the association Terre de Liens, a citizens' movement that makes it possible to make the link between farmers who go to retirement," explains actor and director Guillaume Canet.

Connecting the old and the new generation of peasants

The actor is indeed committed alongside Terre de Liens, whose goal is to protect agricultural land when farmers retire, by building a bridge with new generations.

The association has already bought more than 300 farms since 2003 thanks to donations and solidarity savings.

It rents its farms at low cost to farmers who are committed to an approach that respects the environment.

This is the case of Bernard Jacquet, who bequeathed his property to Hugo Poubelle, breeder at the La Chesnaie farm.

“When we found the farm, says the latter, we had a project of ten hectares.

As we have 44, we had to find a new activity to use the plots, so we added sheep.

We adapted to the opportunity we had”.

An approach that relieves Bernard, the assignor: "If we had made the choice of money, we would dismantle the operation".

OUR “AGRICULTURE” FILE

In France, the equivalent of a football field of agricultural land is concreted every seven minutes!

At the same time, two-thirds of the areas freed up by farmers are bought up to expand neighboring farms.

"Bernard didn't want his land, which his family worked for years, to become a hotel complex or a golf course... and we can understand that," says Guillaume Canet.
