Since the first edition of the sad list, in 2018, Coca-Cola has been an unchallenged champion.

Even if the famous brand of sodas would have done well without this fifth consecutive title.

The American company tops the list of the biggest plastic polluters, according to a ranking established by the NGO Break Free From Plastic.

To compile the ranking, the NGO sends volunteers to collect all the plastic waste scattered in public spaces and in nature.

The purpose of the volunteers is to identify the marks on the collected waste.

This year, more than 31,000 products (bottles or parts of bottles) stamped Coca-Cola have been found in around forty countries, twice as many as in 2021 (13,834) and three times more than in 2018 (9,300).

Despite this observation, Coca-Cola is one of the sponsors of COP27, which is being held until Friday, November 18 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The other two brands that complete the podium are Pepsi, the direct competitor of Coca-Cola, and Nestlé.
