According to the police, they have stopped three people who tried to carry out the action.

The persons are now arrested.

- There is no damage to the board, says operational leader Rune Hekkelstrand, to the newspaper Verdens Gang.

The police write in a statement that the activists did not succeed in gluing themselves, but that there are glue residues on the glass case that protects the painting.

The Minister of Culture: Unacceptable

Norway's Culture Minister Anette Trettebergstuen tells the news agency NTB that the measure is outrageous.

- It is an unacceptable form of action.

Although many of us see the climate fight as one of the most important struggles of our time, it does not help the cause at all to attack priceless art, she says.

According to VG, the magazine Tidens ånd, which first reported on the action, was informed in advance and had an interview with the activists from Stopp Oljetinga.

One of the activists writes in a press release that Stopp Oljetinga sent out:

"I just want to scream when art is valued more than life"
