Usuki City, Oita Prefecture's autumn tradition, "Usuki Takeyoi," where candles in bamboo tubes decorate the castle town at night, was held on a regular scale for the first time in three years.

"Usuki Takeyoi" is an annual autumn event held at this time of year.

Due to the influence of the new corona, it was held on a smaller scale last year, but this year it was held on a regular scale for the first time in three years.

Approximately 20,000 bamboo cylinders filled with candles were lined up in the streets of the samurai residences and other Edo period townscapes, and the area was enveloped in faint light, creating a magical atmosphere.

In addition, when the “Hannyahime Gyoretsu”, in which people dressed up in gorgeous costumes began to parade through the streets, visitors enjoyed taking pictures of the beautiful scenery that resembled a historical picture scroll.

A 9-year-old boy who visited said, "It was beautiful with various bamboo patterns."

Futoshi Mieno, chairman of the Usuki Takeyoi Executive Committee, said, "I am overwhelmed by the fact that it has been held normally for the first time in three years. Although it is the 26th year, I want to make it an event that can still be enjoyed."
