Matthew Perry wasn't in great shape during the Friends

reunion special

.

If the fans of the series noticed it during its broadcast last year, the actor confirmed that he was indeed not on his plate and he explained why.

He had indeed been operated on his teeth a few days before the recording of the reunion.

And while he didn't think the procedure would be too cumbersome, he quickly realized that he wouldn't be able to speak normally: his mouth felt "like it was on fire."

“I felt like my voice was weird…but I couldn't not come.

So what I chose to do is go out there and do the best that I could,” he revealed in an interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC News.

Moved

During this interview, Matthew Perry shows great emotion by evoking the man he was, at the time of the filming of

Friends

, when he was fighting against his addiction to alcohol and drugs.

The star recently rewatched episodes of Season 3 of the sitcom, and he was bowled over by it.

“It's very hard to watch that, because, strangely, I feel sorry for this guy, because he's a guy who is out of control.

I didn't know what was going on with me.

I weighed 70 kg and was about to drop to 58 kg.

I feel so sorry for this guy, he's going through too much – and that's me, I remember that, and I didn't understand what was going on.

But again, I'm sorry, and I'm so grateful that I'm not that anymore… but it's hard, it's hard to watch that, ”he told the American journalist.

Matthew Perry's autobiography will be available in France (and in French) on November 10 from Michel Lafon editions under the title

Friends, my loves and this terrible thing
