• Christian Bale is dazzling in "Amsterdam" by David O'Russell.

Actor Christian Bale is changing his mind again for

David O'Russell's

Amsterdam .

The American director, who had already directed him in

Fighter

(2011) and

America Bluff

(2014), this time offers him the role of a one-eyed First World War veteran in this delirious historical tale set in the early 1930s. A fight played by John David Washington and a nurse played by Margot Robbie will help him foil a terrible plot in New York.

"We wanted to create this enviable friendship which brings together a trio of original characters, strong and straight in their boots but who are always optimistic", explains Christian Bale to 20 Minutes .

The three comrades lived a very happy stay in Amsterdam but their return to the United States will be rough in the middle of politicians, police officers and spies interpreted by Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldana, Taylor Swift, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Rami Malek or Timothy Olyphant, to name just a handful of the stars who appear in the film.

Allies against the Nazis

The screenplay, frappadingue, is very freely inspired by historical facts to highlight a host of stars in which Christian Bale (and his glass eye) takes the lion's share.

“To shoot with David O'Russell is always an adventure, specifies the actor.

He is a wonderful man full of imagination.

Our friendly and supportive relationship is close to that of the characters in the film.

Friendship is at the center of this dynamic, very funny and a bit crazy story in which the trio of marginal heroes unite against adversity to prevent America from falling into the hands of Nazi sympathizers.

Amateur sleuths try to solve a murder for which they are wrongly accused after stepping into a wasp's nest lined with a basket of crabs.

"What I like about my character is that he could be cynical and bitter but he doesn't let it get him down," says Christian Bale.

Whether it's his hateful in-laws or the increasingly greedy rich, this wounded man stands tall in his boots.

jubilant adventures

“Amsterdam is the city where friends have experienced real happiness, explains the actor.

It's a metaphor for the happy times in our lives like shooting this movie was for the whole crew.

» This jubilation is communicated by interposed screen because

Amsterdam

delights the heart and the zygomatics while dispensing beautiful discharges of adrenaline.
