In Shirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture, which is registered as a World Heritage site with gassho-zukuri houses, a simultaneous water discharge drill was held to protect the buildings from fire.

Residents of the Ogimachi district of Shirakawa Village conduct the training every year during this season when the air is dry.

On the 30th, residents of the district and a local fire brigade participated in the event, and 59 water cannons installed in the village all at once released water at the signal of the siren at 8:00 am.

Residents checked the fire extinguishing method by adjusting the angle and direction of water discharge and creating a water curtain between buildings.

In Shirakawa Village, in February this year, there was a fire at a hot spring facility near the gassho village, and there was concern that if all the water cannons were operated at once, the water would run out.

For this reason, for the first time, training was also held to use water guns in order according to the instructions of the disaster prevention administrative radio.

A resident woman who participated in the training said, ``I think training is important because we should never be unable to use a water cannon in the event of a fire.''

A large number of tourists and photography enthusiasts visited the observatory overlooking the village to see the water arch over the gassho village.

A tourist from Osaka said, "I think it's difficult to protect Gassho-zukuri, but I think it would be nice if everyone could protect it."
