As you probably know, the new part of

Avatar

was almost entirely shot in an aquatic environment.

A choice that involved many technical challenges for James Cameron's teams, but also for his casting!

Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet, to name but a few, had no choice but to become freediving champions before filming.

And the least we can say is that the director of

Titanic

was impressed by the performances of his actresses.

“I lasted for almost five minutes.

It's a big success, ”said Zoe Saldana in an interview with the

New York Times

with James Cameron.

But tell yourself that this is not much compared to the exploits of his two colleagues!

“Five minutes is huge, conceded James Cameron.

Sigourney did six minutes and thirty seconds.

Seven minutes of snorkeling

But if there is one that has completely stunned the director, it is Kate Winslet who managed to stay seven minutes in apnea!

“Kate is a brute of preparation.

So she clung to freediving as something she could build her character around, James Cameron continued.

As an aquatic Na'vi, Kate's character is someone who grew up underwater - they are very different from the forest Na'vi, so much so that they are almost separated into two different species.

So she had to be quite calm underwater, and it turned out that she was made for that.
