On October 16, local time, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, severe drought throughout the Midwest caused the Mississippi River to refresh its record low water level.

Local residents found the wreck of a 19th-century merchant ship in an exposed river channel.

Archaeologists believe it was a trade ship built in Indiana in 1886.

The Mississippi River flows through many states in the United States and is the artery for the transportation of agricultural products in the United States.

Forecasts show that the Mississippi River is likely to drop further this week as a result of the drought.

The U.S. Climate Prediction Center said the drought is not expected to ease until October 23.
