In a video on social media, several major Swedish directors and actors demand that Iran's embassy in Sweden close.

Film directors Ali Abbasi and Milad Alami are behind the initiative.

According to them, closing the embassy and sending the ambassador home would mean an important political stance against the Iranian regime.

- It is a way of saying that the Iranian state has lost its legitimacy.

Because they have used a degree of brutality and violence that no longer makes sense, says Ali Abbasi.

- It is a strong position if Sweden were to do so.

I think that several countries, at least in Scandinavia, would follow along, says Milad Alami.

Function of the Iranian Embassy

According to Milad Alami and Ali Abbasi, the Iranian embassy in Sweden does not fulfill its function as a contact route or help for Swedish-Iranian residents.

- I think that people, on the contrary, choose not to have much contact with them at all during these times.

But it mainly happens privately, says Milad Alami.

"Unfortunately, the Iranian embassies' task is to spy on the opposition in Scandinavia," says Ali Abbasi.

"Can no longer be silent"

Although political stances in opposition to the regime can have serious consequences, Alami and Abbasi say they do not feel afraid.

- It is clear that people have been a little worried and afraid, but after 14-year-old girls are out demonstrating in Iran, taking off their veils and scolding the police for their freedom, it feels pathetic to be afraid of this.

It feels like an obligation.

You can no longer be silent, says Milad.

According to Ali Abbasi, it is not only about a debate regarding the veil anymore, but about the entire country's political system and the currents that prevail in the Middle East.

- I never thought in my lifetime that I would see such a progressive movement in Iran where the women are marching ahead of the men, says Abbasi.

Both Alami and Abbasi say they hope to visit Iran in the future.
