The State was ordered by the Council of State to pay a record sum of 20 million euros in fines for not having acted quickly enough against air pollution, which causes tens of thousands of deaths. each year in France, in a decision rendered on Monday.
The fine concerns the period from July 12, 2021 to July 12, 2022, i.e. 10 million euros per semester.
The State had already been sentenced in August 2021 to pay 10 million euros for not having sufficiently strengthened its system against pollution, a decision which then related to the first half of 2021.
