French director Thomas Jolly has been appointed director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.

At just 40 years old, Thomas Jolly already has a varied theatrical and artistic career.

This jack-of-all-trades, born in Normandy, in Rouen, first trained at the School of the National Theater of Brittany (TNB) in Rennes, after a degree in theater studies in Caen.

And very quickly, in 2006, he created his company La Piccola Famiglia with which he won the Impatience prize awarded at the Théâtre National de l'Odéon to young companies.

If he was then noticed by the profession, his first public success, he knows it with his titanic staging of Henry VI by Shakespeare, in 2014 in Avignon.

An 18-hour play conceived as a soap opera in the vein of the epic shows that the theater festival is so fond of.

An eclectic theater man

The Opera then courts the young director.

He staged his first lyrical piece Eliogabalo by Cavalli at the Paris Opera in 2016 and the following year directed Fantasio at the Opéra comique.

In 2018, he opened the Festival d'Avignon in the Cour d'honneur of the Palais des Papes with Thyeste by Sénèque, which was his consecration. 

And this fall, it is towards the musical that he turns.

He signs a new staging of Starmania for the music scene in November.

An eclectic, multi-talented artist is chosen to orchestrate the ceremonies of the Paris Olympic Games.
