Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress will depart Japan for England on the 17th to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Their Majesties will visit foreign countries for the first time since the enthronement of Emperor Akihito.

On the morning of the 17th, Their Majesties will depart from Haneda Airport in Tokyo for Stansted Airport in the suburbs of London, England, on a government plane.

Upon departure, Prince Akishino and his wife will send them off, and they will arrive at Stansted Airport on the afternoon of the 17th local time.

He will attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth, which will be held at Westminster Abbey in central London from 11:00 am on the 19th, and will depart England that night.

He is scheduled to return to Japan on the afternoon of the 20th Japan time, and during that time, Prince Akishino will serve as a temporary substitute for state affairs.

It will be the first time for Their Majesties to visit a foreign country since the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor, and for the Empress, it will be the first overseas visit in seven years since she visited Tonga with His Majesty the Emperor in 2015.
