On September 15, "Salute to Teachers 2022 - Respect for Teachers Day Celebration and Commendation Ceremony" was held in Hong Kong.
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, was the officiating guest and paid tribute to Hong Kong educators.
It is reported that more than 1,500 teachers received awards this year.
In his speech, Li Jiachao thanked the teachers in Hong Kong for educating talents, working silently and selflessly for students.
He said that excellent teachers are the key to high-quality education and an important cornerstone of a country's prosperity, national rejuvenation and people's happiness.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will comprehensively strengthen teachers' correct understanding of the Constitution, the Basic Law, "One Country, Two Systems", national security, and the spirit of the rule of law, and adopt a series of measures, including requiring newly recruited teachers in public schools in Hong Kong to pass the Basic Law test from this school year and formulate teacher Professional ethics guidelines, etc., improve the professionalism of teachers, and build national identity, national pride and sense of ownership for students.
Li Jiachao reiterated that the SAR government will continue to invest in education, strengthen teacher training, and gather forces from all sides to create more opportunities for the growth of young people, so that young people can give full play to their strengths, and grasp Hong Kong's role as an international metropolis and the unique advantages of "One Country, Two Systems". Work for the well-being of the country and Hong Kong.
