"Abu Dhabi Art" has chosen the plastic artist, co-founder and general manager of the Lebanese publishing house Dongola, Abdel Qadri, as curator to oversee the annual "Horizons: Emerging Artists" program, where he will direct and mentor three emerging artists in the UAE, namely: Majd Alloush (Syria), Sarah Al Muhairi (UAE) and Mohamed Khaled (Sri Lanka), as they create new artworks to be presented at the Abu Dhabi Art exhibition from November to January 22 next.
The three artists will be on a date with an experience during which they will explore various visions about the concepts of borders separating countries, the idea of homeland, human settlements and geographical maps, with a special focus on the most prominent steps in the development of art books.
These commissioned artworks, in addition to a copy of the “Cities and Quarantine: Postal Box” project, which Al Qadri previously implemented and presented creatively, during the pandemic, will be displayed at Al Muwaiji Palace in Al Ain, as part of the Abu Dhabi Art program.
“Our annual program (Horizons: Emerging Artists) aims to develop a new generation of creators, present their works to an international audience, and enable them to create ambitious works under the supervision of the curator, and with the financial and moral support of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi".
"We are confident of the great value that the artist Qadri will add to the program, and we look forward with enthusiasm to seeing the developments that will occur in their artistic production during the programme," she added.
And she continued, "Beside the exhibition Horizons: Emerging Artists, Al-Qadri will present his artistic project Cities and Quarantine: The Mailbox, which celebrates the importance of the world and material and tangible art, especially since the focus on the physical dimension has become more important, in conjunction with the accelerating digital developments, and the emergence of the world of metaverses that imposes itself Strongly".
For his part, Al-Qadri expressed his pride in participating in this year's edition of the program, adding: "Of course, this is a wonderful opportunity during which I aspire to establish a fruitful artistic dialogue, dealing with the works of the three artists, and presenting new creative visions by focusing on the practices of developing art books."
It is noteworthy that the Abu Dhabi Art Exhibition will open its doors to the public from 16-20 November at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
