[Explanation] At 8:00 on September 6, the water level of Poyang Lake Xingzi Station, the largest freshwater lake in China, retreated to 7.99 meters, entering an extremely dry period, which was the lowest water level in the same period in history since records began in 1951.

Following the earliest entry into the dry season (below 12 meters) and the low dry season (below 10 meters) on August 6 and August 19, Poyang Lake once again refreshed the earliest record for entering the extremely dry season, which was earlier than the original earliest appearance on November 30, 2019. 85 days.

On the afternoon of the same day, a reporter from China News Agency drove to the Poyang Lake Xingzi Hydrological Station. On the electronic display above a water level marker stone pillar, the real-time water level was displayed as 7.96 meters.

Huang Xiao, a staff member of the Poyang Lake Hydrology and Water Resources Monitoring Center, said in an interview that the continuous high temperature and low rainfall combined with the lack of water in the Yangtze River Basin are the main reasons for the rapid decline of the water level.

Since late June, the province's average rainfall has been about 60% less than the same period in previous years, and the evaporation is twice that of the same period.

[Explanation] It is also understood that the average daily retreat of Poyang Lake is 0.13 meters, and the maximum daily retreat is 0.33 meters. It only took 31 days to retreat from 12 meters to 8 meters, which is rare in history.

The lowest water level in history at Xingzi Station was 7.11 meters, which occurred on February 4, 2004. If this year continues, the high temperature and low rainfall will most likely break through the historically low water level of 7.11 meters.

[Explanation] Due to the impact of anti-drying in the flood season, the falling star pier, which is several kilometers away from the Xingzi Hydrological Station, has long been revealed, and the surrounding area has become a vast "prairie", and many tourists come here to play and watch.
