You have to look up to discover this “innovative project in urban agriculture”.

In the heart of the Nantes-Nord district, a huge market garden greenhouse has grown on the roof of a social housing building from the 1970s. If its first vocation is naturally to grow fruits and vegetables there which will be distributed to associations in solidarity with the district, the Symbiose project (officially inaugurated on Tuesday evening) also intends to take up an energy challenge.

"The objective is to recover part of the heat generated by the greenhouse to heat the building's water, used for the daily needs of the inhabitants", explains Nantes Métropole Habitat, which took advantage of the installation of the structure to renovate the 24 social housing units in the building.

According to the Office's forecasts, “the energy supplied by the greenhouse makes it possible to cover 70 to 90% of the energy needs for the production of domestic hot water over the year”.

In winter, it is the building, connected to the heating network, which will heat the nursery.
