Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky's new film "The whale", shown in Venice, is about an overweight teacher who struggles to reconnect with his daughter.

The lead role is played by Brendan Fraser, who is making a comeback in Hollywood, and there is already talk that his performance could bring an Oscar nomination.

- There will certainly be criticism about him wearing a so-called fatsuit, but he plays the role with such compassion.

There was a standing ovation when the film was shown, says Christina Jeurling Birro.

Another film that has received a lot of attention in advance is the film adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' biography of Marilyn Monroe, "Blonde", starring Ana de Armas, directed by Andrew Dominik.

Documentary about the opioid crisis

The documentary All the beauty and the bloodshed by Laura Poitras has also become a hot topic of conversation.

It is about legendary photographer Nan Goldin and the opioid crisis that has claimed the lives of half a million Americans.

The Sackler family - who are also behind large donations to several art institutions - have made a lot of money selling opioid painkillers through their Purdue pharmaceutical company.

- It is an incredibly strong documentary.

Nan Goldin tells her own story about her addiction and how she takes up the fight against the big art dragons, the Guggenheim, the Louvre, etc., to get them not to accept donations from the Sackler family, says Christina Jeurling Birro.
