Three men have been arrested after a serious accident involving a ride in India.

A police spokesman said on Wednesday that the crash involving a free-fall tower at a festival in Mohali, a city in the state of Punjab, left ten passengers seriously and others slightly injured.

The platform of the tower crashed about 15 meters with more than 50 passengers on Sunday.

Some of them fell out of their seats.

The arrested are the festival organizer and two other men, said the police spokesman.

Investigations into the causes of the accident were still ongoing.

It would also be clarified whether the organizers had obtained all the necessary permits.

Initial findings indicated that cables had come loose from the ride while driving, which led to the accident.

Local newspaper The Tribune quoted eyewitnesses as saying no ambulances were at the scene and police took the injured to hospital.

The "London Bridge" fair was originally supposed to last until August 31st, but was then extended until September 11th.

After the accident, the authorities ended the festival early.

Reports that mass panic broke out after the accident could not be confirmed.

A video of the accident has been shared millions of times.
