During Tuesday, approximately 100 employees at Danish DR were dismissed, of which 40-45 journalists at DR Kultur and 20-25 at DR Nyheder.

Due to this, several departments, including DR culture, have stopped their work during the day.

The strike affects several broadcasts, among other things, programs such as Danish P1 Debate and the program Kulturen will be canceled completely, reports the industry newspaper Journalisten.

Digital transformation behind cutbacks

According to the management, the background to the cutbacks was the digital transformation that the company is striving for and the investment in personnel with skills other than journalistic.

"What we are doing now is shifting resources so that we can invest in IT developers, data analysts and UX staff, and you can't just take journalists at DR Nyheder and train them for that," said DR Director General Maria Rørbye Rønn to Danish The journalist last week.

The Danish public service has long struggled with major cutbacks.

In 2018, 400 employees had to go following a decision from the Norwegian Parliament.
