A car ferry with around 300 people on board caught fire off the Swedish coast on Monday.

According to a spokesman for the Swedish Maritime Authority, three helicopters and seven ships were dispatched to the scene and evacuation of the ferry began.

Accordingly, the fire broke out on the car deck.

According to the Swedish newspaper "Expressen", a fire broke out around 12.30 p.m. on board the Stena Scandica, which is moored off Gotska Sandön in the Baltic Sea.

It is still unclear whether anyone was injured in the fire.

The fire is under control an hour after the alarm was raised, says Lisa Mjörning, spokeswoman for the Swedish Maritime Authority.
