China News Agency, Beijing, August 21 (Du Yan Xujing) Beijing is constantly exploring a long-term mechanism for the protection of the Great Wall.

The reporter learned from the ongoing 2022 Beijing Great Wall Cultural Festival that the protection of the Great Wall in Beijing has changed from "passive rescue protection" to "active preventive protection", and has refined the Great Wall of "carefully repairing the Great Wall and researching while repairing". Conservation experience.

Distributed in 15 provinces in China, the Great Wall is the largest surviving cultural heritage in China and was included in the World Heritage List in 1987.

Among them, most of the Great Wall ruins within Beijing are built in the Northern Qi Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty.

In recent years, Beijing has formed a new pattern of Beijing Great Wall protection with heritage protection as the core, the protection and development of the Great Wall Cultural Belt as the theme, and the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park as the focus, and has accumulated new experience in the protection, inheritance and promotion of the Great Wall culture.

In order to explore new methods and paths for the protection of the Great Wall itself and the value of the Great Wall, since 2018, Beijing has launched a pilot project to introduce archaeological excavations into the protection and repair of the Great Wall.

"Before encountering the collapsed brick walls of the Great Wall, the construction workers may remove them. Now, because of the introduction of archaeological excavations, experts from various fields can read information from history and provide a basis for a series of subsequent protections." Chen Mingjie, director of the Cultural Relics Bureau, introduced at the 2022 Beijing Great Wall Cultural Festival, which opened on the evening of the 20th, to prevent the disregard and destruction of the historical information of the cultural relics, and to provide an important design reference and protection basis for the subsequent rescue and reinforcement of the Great Wall.

In 2022, Beijing will carry out the archaeological excavations of the Great Wall in Dazhuangke Section of Yanqing District and Jiankou Section of Huairou District, respectively. At present, the related work has shown new highlights.

Among them, in the archaeology of the Jiankou section of the Great Wall in Huairou District, for the first time, the relics of living facilities such as kangs and stoves in the Ming Dynasty were discovered on the top of the enemy platform of the Great Wall in Beijing. Life, so that the Great Wall of iron and blood has a world of fireworks.

At the same time, two stone steles were discovered in archaeology, which clearly recorded the historical facts of the construction of the enemy platform in the 12th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty and the construction of the wall in the 25th year of Wanli, indicating that the construction of the single building was earlier than the wall of the Great Wall. The appearance and evolution of the defense system of the Great Wall in different periods enriches the cultural connotation of the Jiankou Great Wall.

The new technology is also applied to the protection of the Great Wall.

During the renovation of the Jiankou Great Wall, Beijing tried to use digital technology, smart sensors and other new technologies to monitor the Great Wall and its surrounding environment, explore the establishment of a long-term monitoring system, and change the previous monitoring method that relied on manual inspections.

In Chen Mingjie's view, Beijing gradually implements the protection method of the Great Wall rescue project and research repairs, which can remove more dangerous sections of the Great Wall and study the value of the Great Wall more deeply.

"Research repairs protect the Great Wall by means of multi-disciplinary in-depth and cross-cooperation. The multi-disciplinary expert team puts forward suggestions from their respective professional perspectives to protect the Great Wall culture to the greatest extent, and also conduct a more comprehensive study of the evolution of the causes of the Great Wall's diseases. The plan provides a detailed basis." He said that Beijing actively summed up and extracted the experience of Beijing's Great Wall protection of "carefully repairing the Great Wall and studying while repairing it".

Museums are not only the key to highlighting the unique value of cultural heritage, but also play an important role in historical and cultural publicity, cultural research and other aspects.

At present, there are 28 registered museums in the six districts along the Great Wall in Beijing. The Great Wall Museum of China, located in the Badaling Great Wall Scenic Spot, is the only Great Wall museum in China with the title of "China".

The reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics on the 21st that the Great Wall Museum of China is implementing a renovation and upgrading project. This is the No. 1 construction project of the Great Wall National Cultural Park (Beijing Section). At present, the international proposal solicitation has been completed. It is expected to start by the end of 2023 and be completed by the end of 2025. .

According to reports, the total land area of the project is about 27,000 square meters, and the total construction area is about 16,000 square meters. After construction, it will become a national first-class museum that comprehensively displays and interprets the historical context and culture of the Great Wall of China.

Beijing has also tried to build a digital application scenario for the protection of the Great Wall, and used technology to allow citizens to experience "climbing the Great Wall" and "building the Great Wall" online, recording the construction process and phased achievements of the Great Wall National Cultural Park with cameras, and using the popular temple fairs and ancient customs of the Great Wall. Markets and other special themed activities allow people to "see the sights" and "experience the culture".

At present, there are 17 Great Wall protection projects underway in Beijing, including 12 emergency reinforcement projects, 4 repair projects, and 1 preliminary survey and archaeological research project.

Beijing will strive to make the world cultural heritage sensible, understandable and participatory in multiple ways, so that people can understand the historical value of the Great Wall, understand the contemporary value of the Great Wall, and protect, inherit and promote the culture of the Great Wall.
