The Criminal Court sentences his wife's killer to death in Al-Ardiya, Kuwait

Today, the Criminal Court sentenced to death a Kuwaiti who killed his wife, and turned away from his request to reduce the sentence on the grounds that he had a psychiatric file.

This ruling is considered the first of its kind, after the Court of Cassation established a principle that states that mental illness does not exempt from criminal responsibility.

The accused had committed his crime in Al-Ardiya area after he lured his wife following disagreements between them, as she was in her father's house days after her birth, before he asked her to go out with him to reach an understanding to solve some problems, but he killed her.

The Court of Cassation had confirmed in a previous ruling that mental illness is not always a condition for irresponsibility, according to Al-Qabas newspaper.

Other provisions made it clear that common sense prevents the commission of some crimes, even if the perpetrator claims that he is unaware because of the mental stimulus he was taking at the time of the crime.
