The second and last this year.. the sun will pass perpendicular to the Kaaba tomorrow

Tomorrow, the sky of Makkah Al-Mukarramah will witness the sun’s perpendicular to the Kaaba, and it will mark the second and final perpendicularity this year.

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, stated that the second perpendicularity occurs with the return of the sun “apparently” coming from the Tropic of Cancer heading south to the equator, where it will mediate the meridian when it is at an altitude of (90 degrees) approximately, indicating that it will become one straight with The Kaaba, whose shadow will disappear at the time of the noon call to prayer in the Grand Mosque at 12:27 pm local time.

He pointed out that the cause of the sun's perpendicular phenomenon to the Kaaba is due to the tilt of the Earth's rotation axis at an angle of 23.5 degrees, which leads to the sun's movement "apparently" between the Tropics of Cancer in the north and Capricorn in the south, passing through the equator while the Earth revolves around the sun once every year.

Engineer Abu Zahira pointed out that the regions located at latitudes less than 23.5 degrees north or south all witness this event twice a year, but at different times depending on the latitude of that place, and it is characterized by places on the globe confined between the equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

It is noteworthy that the phenomenon of the sun's perpendicularity is used to calculate the circumference of the Earth in a non-numerical way, using some simple methods in geometry, and it also indicates the sphericality of our planet.

And the sun will return and perpendicular again to the Kaaba during its apparent movement and its transition from the equator to the Tropic of Cancer in May next year 2023.
