Gradual specialization, lessons with two teachers, presentation of a “masterpiece”: after a year marked by the reform of the professional path, the senior high school students in this sector start the baccalaureate written exams on Tuesday.

The first tests of the bac pro reform

The 2022 session of the professional baccalaureate evaluates the first candidates who inaugurated at the start of the 2019 school year, from the second class, this new reform of the professional path.

This development, which should allow students to orient themselves more gradually, does not really have an impact on exams, but it does on course attendance.

The daily life at the professional high school has been modified: greater hourly volume, projects to be carried out and the famous "masterpiece", which consists of a realization, collective or individual, in connection with the future profession.

“We are faced with final year students in the pro route who are really overloaded with work after this year which resulted with the reform in a multiplication of evaluations”, regrets Vincent Magne, professor of history and letters in vocational high school.

Seven compulsory tests

The vocational baccalaureate, created in 1985, is a three-year national diploma – it was spread over four years until 2009. It allows the integration into professional life of successful candidates, if they so wish.

They can also pursue studies, in particular via the BTS.

The exam includes seven compulsory tests, and up to two optional tests at most (modern language, EPS and mobility – an internship abroad).

As with the general baccalaureate, candidates for the professional baccalaureate can take a remedial test, known as the “control test”.

The 2022 professional baccalaureate exams will begin on Tuesday with French and history-geography and will run until June 24.
