Austria reveals first monkeypox case in Vienna

Today, the Austrian Ministry of Health announced the first case of monkeypox in Austria, belonging to a 35-year-old man.

Peter Hacker, Health Adviser to the City of Vienna, stated that the patient's condition is stable, but he suffers from changes in the skin, blisters on the face, flu symptoms and mild fever.

In turn, the concerned medical authorities disinfected the patient’s apartment, and are currently monitoring his contacts to trace the individuals in contact with him during the last period. The Ministry of Health denied the existence of any cause for concern, and confirmed Austria’s well-preparedness, while virologist Monica Frits confirmed the difficulty of transmission of the disease and ruled out the occurrence of a pandemic similar to other diseases. .
