After the massive eruption of an undersea volcano, Tonga is now fighting its first corona outbreak.

The government imposed a strict lockdown on the island nation on Wednesday.

The virus was first discovered in two port workers.

After that, three more infections were discovered in the men’s environment.

Tonga had reported just one case of the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

After the eruption of the submarine volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai, the government had feared that the virus could also be introduced with the aid.

So far there is no evidence of where the workers got infected.

The aid deliveries on ships from Australia, New Zealand and other countries are said to have been handed over without contact with the population.

Australia has ruled out that HMAS Adelaide could be the source of the infections.

The warship had erupted before docking in the port of Tonga's capital.

However, the infected workers worked elsewhere in the port.

The relief supplies had been in “isolation” untouched for three days.
