When the Ministry of the Environment conducted a survey with experts on Nishinoshima Island in the Ogasawara Islands, where a large-scale eruptive activity occurred, the existence of seabirds and small crabs was confirmed.

It is believed that the island has disappeared after the eruption, and the Ministry of the Environment has decided to continue the investigation as it will be a clue to think about the ecosystem.

On Nishinoshima, about 130 km west of Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, it is believed that the entire island was covered with lava and volcanic ash due to the active eruptive activity that began in 2013, and no living organisms have disappeared.

In response to the decline in activities, the Ministry of the Environment conducted an ecological survey using drones in July and September last year with experts, and a debriefing session was held on the 3rd.

According to it, breeding of five kinds of seabirds was confirmed on the island, and among them, "gannets" were nesting near the former breeding site.

We also found flies that parasitize seabirds.

There are also 11 types of crabs, and it is said that "Kakurei Wagani" was found on the land about 100 meters from the coast, and "Tsubuiboshojingani" was found on the marine debris drifting around the island. That is.

The Ministry of the Environment wants to continue investigating changes in the status of living things on islands that are out of the reach of people as valuable clues for thinking about ecosystems, and to analyze the effects of marine debris.
