A “shocking” verdict in the case of a Syrian boy who was beaten to death in a fight with 4 Turkish youths

Relatives of a Syrian boy killed about two years ago by 4 Turkish brothers were shocked by the court's "lightened" ruling against one of them and the innocence of the remaining three.

The Syrian youth, "Hamza Al-Ajjan" (17 years), was killed in the popular bazaar in the Gorsu region, after a quarrel broke out between him and the four young vegetable sellers in the market because of insulting a Syrian woman.

The Turkish Criminal Court in Bursa issued its decision after a session held in the presence of the family of the murdered young man "Hamza" and some relatives of the perpetrators. It included imposing a prison sentence of 3 years and 4 months on one of the aggressors on the pretext that he (he did not reach the legal age) while the rest of the brothers were acquitted.

The court's decision provoked anger and criticism from the family of the murdered young man, "Hamza", who was shocked by what they heard from the investigating judge, considering such a decision irrelevant to justice. The Department of Justice, while the family's lawyer will file an appeal against the decision in the coming days.

Activists on social media said at the time that Hamza was severely beaten, while trying to dissuade some vegetable vendors from insulting a Syrian woman who had been cheated by them, so they beat him severely, leading to death.

According to what the human rights activist "Taha Al-Ghazi" reported on his personal Facebook page, the court session in which the verdict was pronounced came after the issuance of the forensic medicine report, which was issued more than a year and a half after the incident.

The criminal report, according to "Al Arabiya", pointed out that it is possible that the cause of death was the result of a disease suffered by the young "Hamza", and not as a result of being beaten and assaulted, stressing the possibility of the presence of blood diseases that he was suffering from and may be an indirect cause of his death, which she rejected. The family objected to him and demanded that Hamza's medical record be reviewed to ensure that he did not have any diseases over the previous years.

And human rights activist "Al-Ghazi" added that after the court's decision, some cadres in Turkish human rights organizations were contacted, expressing their desire to follow up on the case file and to seek the full rights of the family and to prosecute the perpetrators.
